a daddy-daughter trip

Friday at 4am my husband and my oldest daughter quietly crept into the house, fresh off a 10 hour train ride.  Julianna went straight to her bed, laid down and slept til 10.  Matt didn't have the luxury and had to combine a few hours sleep on his train bed with a few more hours here before he headed to campus to give his final exam!  (yay that the spring semester is done!  he turned in grades today and it's bye-bye teaching job til September!)

The trip was a smashing success.  Julianna loved it.  Loved Loved Loved it.

One highlight was certainly this opportunity to join music practice with some locals.  They were actually singing in a third language (spoken by about 3 million people here in our area of the world) and Julianna said "I wish I could speak [that language] too, you know, so I could say I knew three languages".  :)  ha.  She's quite good at Chinese and definitely a strong oral learner, and I would not be one bit surprised if her future includes more language study of some sort.

The area they went to is just beautiful and I am anxious to get out there myself.  During the remaining daylight hours on Friday Julianna took a few photos from the train.

Needless to say, most everyone else is eager for their "trip with Daddy".  We shall see.... opportunities like these don't show up every day, but it's fun for Matt to have a big success under his belt and we'll be looking for more chances to send a child along one day soon.
